Hi Cecilia,
That weaving together of the ordinary and sublime that you describe is one of my favorite aspects of the poem as well. Thanks for sharing how it touched you.

This inauguration was momentous and historic and the poem rose to the grandeur of the event. It wove the mundane with the spiritual, the concrete with the ephemeral. Like a DNA strand, it wove together the realm of human experience. Like a guiding light, it took us by the hand toward the promise fulfilled and the promise yet to be met. This poem was one of the highlights of the inauguration. I am thankful for it.

Thank you for sharing it Carole. I like it very much. In you I discover yet another children's book author and poet. Have you read any of Sri Chinmoy's poetry? His body of work is quite vast, uplifting and almost exclusively devotional/prayerful in nature. http://www.srichinmoypoetry.com/

Dear Crescent,
In you I shall find yet another writer to discover! I see that your children's books are in our library network and I will delight in taking a look at them. And I remain a fan of Alexander's poem regardless of any nay-sayers. Wishing you a beautiful and fruitful New Year!
