With the first day of Fall just around the corner and the last weekend of Summer forecast to be beautiful, I was drawn to the beach and the coast to soak in the last official rays of Summer.

First stop was Scarborough State Beach on the southern coast of Rhode Island. My friend and I shared the beach with others but parking was free and it was not overly crowded. After some time listening to the big waves and only my feet venturing into the rather cold water, we ventured to a second venue – Point Judith Lighthouse near Narragansett.

There we delighted in watching a multitude of surfers riding what was left of Hurricane Igor’s waves. Easily 100 people were out there surfing and one person we spoke with said that people drive to surf at Point Judith from other states even.

All this surfing vibe got me to thinking about how a great documentary short film about surfing and spirituality opens the New York Surfer’s Film Festival tonight, September 24, 2010, at the Tribeca Cinemas. Called Ocean Monk, it is directed by Sanjay Rawal and I happen to know several of the cast members since we all study meditation through the teachings of Sri Chinmoy.

The film is getting good reviews and is an official selection of the New York Surfer’s Film Festival (true confessions – who knew there was such a thing?!) and I can hardly wait to see it myself. In the meantime, here is a trailer of the movie from Vimeo,

Last but not least, I think this is the first post where I embed not one but TWO videos. Onward and upward…
